Default Bendix Spring and Gear

I'm in the final process of installing the starter. The the Bendix spring and gear won't move down the shaft. Any ideas what's going on?

If you mean that the Bendix won't slide onto the shaft, there may be a burr at the very end. Lightly file the end to make sure it is smooth. Sometime the key hole edges are raised a little. John
