Re: Oil around spark plugs
Usually a sign of loose plugs or bad gaskets. Check the head surface where the plugs seat.

Re: Oil around spark plugs
When you tighten down the plugs do you feel the plug gasket compress?

Re: Oil around spark plugs
Thanks for the response I am unable to send pictures . I have been using a Amsco Oiler but it should not be showing oil around the 2,3 plugs .I am also chasing a rough idle and an unstable vacuum. @. About 12 in. Thanks BOB

Re: Oil around spark plugs
Bob, in your trouble shooting, test one thing at a time. Otherwise, you won't know if the problem is the plugs or the oiler. JMO.

Re: Oil around spark plugs
Hi Everyone. I'm curious and have seen sunshine's truck. How would an oiler, with MMO in it, cause engine oil to form around the spark plug base? (Funky spark plug holes and sealing surfaces?)
I know I see this frequently on modern aluminum, injected overhead cam engines too. Can someone school me on what causes this symptom? Working on the theory that sunshine's plugs are not sealing against the head, why does oil form? Is it burnt gasses turning back to liquid? Oil should be in the valve train and cylinder walls, but in the chamber? IDK.

Re: Oil around spark plugs
I've had this on a Model T engine. The oil is sucked past the piston rings. Haven't worked out the physics but get the plugs sealed and it goes away.

Re: Oil around spark plugs
To test plugs ( ceramic leaking around electrode) remove the plug wire and spray the plug ( when cold !) with soapy water . Start motor , it'll miss on that one cyl but if the plug is leaking it'll bubble . You need to look closely, any little bubble means the plug is leaking and allows carbon and combustion products to leak and accumulate at the base .
Or you could just move the plug to another cylinder ! |
