King pin locking bolts
They have grooves.Should they be aligned in a special way or just drive em in... from the front of course.

Re: King pin locking bolts
Grant-
If you have a king pin in your hand, ie not installed in the spindle--you will see how they fit. They are matched to the king pin in a tongue and groove pattern. If I recall correctly the tongue configuration of the pin faces toward the backing plate, and the round half of the pin faces the center of the car. |

Re: King pin locking bolts
The last thing you should do is drive those cotter pins in. As I said in a similar thread recently, that can easily stretch the eye in the axle and ruin it. Pull it in with the nut and don't overtighten it even then. Henry wasn't very generous with the amount of metal around the eye.

Re: King pin locking bolts
Thanks Son, but isn't that the opposite of what Wes Andrews says about installing those locking pins?
Any more comment about aligning the grooves on the locking pin? I tried fitting kingpin and locking pin together outside of the axel and they sorta fit together so I guess I will try to align them that a way. |
