LOCAL CLUB’S CAR SHOW FUELS SCHOLARSHIPS FOR HANCOCK STUDENTS
Car enthusiasts can soon check out dozens of classic cars and fund scholarships for Allan Hancock College students at the same time. The Santa Maria Model A Ford Club is hosting its 12th annual All Ford Car Show in Old Town Orcutt on Saturday, September 13, 2014.
The car show will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Ford Mustang. Car entries will include Ford vehicles from 1903 through today, as well as street rods, customs, race cars and originals.
“Seeing a century’s worth of Fords in one spot will be an amazing experience whether you are a car enthusiast or not,” said Kay McCord, President of the Santa Maria Model A Ford Club.
As part of the annual show, the club sells raffle tickets for a custom barbeque pit built by Eric Mason, the chair of Hancock’s industrial technology department. The Santa Maria-style grill features an area for wood storage and granite cutting surfaces. Ticket sales go directly toward scholarships for students in Hancock’s industrial technology program.
“We are very grateful the Santa Maria Model A’s continues to support our students,” said Mason. “The donations mean more to our students than just financial assistant. They also gives students acknowledgment of the importance of continuing their education and receiving their certificates and degrees.”
Last year, the club donated a record 10 scholarships totaling $5,500. The Santa Maria Ford Club started in 2003 and includes nearly 50 families, several of which have ties to the college.
“Many of our members attended automotive classes at Hancock,” said McCord. “We want to contribute to the future of these young people by allowing them to start at Hancock and go where they wish to go.”
Raffle ticket prices are $1 each, six for $5 and 12 for $10. Entry forms and advanced tickets are available at the Santa Maria Grocery Outlet Store or on the car club’s website www.santamariamodelafordclub.com .
