1929 Sport Coupe : Chrome or Nickel ?
Hi Fellas.
I am hoping someone can give me a definitive answer as to what parts should be chrome, nickel or cadmium plated on a 1929 Sport Coupe that was assembled in August of 1929. I have read MANY contradicting opinions and I know it depends on the assembly date as chrome seemed to used more widely in late 1929. I.e. the radiator shell, headlights, etc. Thank you, in advance for you time and information sharing. |

May I (we) suggest that you get the MARC/MAFCA Restoration Guidelines and Judging Standards and trust us...that will answer almost all of your questions.
It would be nice to list the many different finishes here but it would take me (us) all night to hunt through the Standards to point all of them out to you. Pluck |

If you are building it for judging (or even not) the Judging Standards are your friends, and therein lie your answers. Well worth the $.

The radiator shell and headlights were nickel plated.
Your will find the book that Steve mentioned extremely helpful as it lists finishes for all components on your car. It is a wealth of information. Hunter |

I certainly agree that the book is WELL worth it even if you only get curious about your car on occasion. The list for Cadmium isn't huge but is varied enough that folks here would have a tough time spelling all out.
Now, chrome is a different story! The ONLY thing chrome would be the bumper bars. Supposedly late in '29 you could have chrome hub caps but I wouldn't expect to see it.

The even changed the name of the book to reflect that it is a great resource to the hobby no matter if you are restoring for points or not. It is often as easy to put in the "correct" part as it is any part.
