Default Newbie, 47 merc 59A-B engine budget

Hello everyone and greetings from Spain.
after 15+ years I decided to start restoring a 1946 or 1947 Mercury Club convertible. Unfortunately the engine was swapped to a 21 stud engine. My current goal is to replace the water pumps, have a running engine to move it around but, replace it with the right engine when possible. What is a reasonable budget for a real and original stock 59 A-B engine US FOB? These engines are as rare as hen's teeth in Spain.

regards Miguel A. Simon

You'd likely do better with an engine from the UK, Germany, or France.

Hi Miguel
The mercury in your photo is a 1946 model as it has a painted grill surround with three small chrome strips each side and long strips on the hood.

Are you asking about the cost of a rebuilt one here in the US? Well, a guy @ Hershey this year was selling a NOS 59 AB that Bob Drake sold in the early 90's for $5K.

My rebuild (hopped up, hot rod motor) is going to cost around $5K and that is with me supplying most of the parts.

If you're looking for a newly rebuilt engine - and they're supplying all the parts - in a STOCK type configuration . . . my guess is $5,000 to $7,000. That would be a long block, but without intake/carb, distributor.
