head gasket compressed thickness
hello, i am assembling a 239 inch engine and i want check the dimension between the piston and head [i`m shooting for .050"]. i used aluminum foil balls and determined the dimension between the piston and head at the perimeter of the piston was .057" and the middle [center] of the piston was .072". i`m using a copper sandwich gasket, the head was just snugged down. can anyone tell me the compressed thickness of the head gasket, right out of the package the gasket measures .079". thanx for your help.

Re: head gasket compressed thickness
i don`t know what brand of gaskets they are, i`ve had them a long time.they are marked "canada", "vr 3036", and as stated above the gasket measures .079". i also have a used "compressed" composition gasket that measures .061". i guess my question is what is the minimum dimension between the piston and cylinder head that is considered safe? thanx,
