Early 28 drive shaft removal
My project today was to remove the drive shaft from the 28 banjo to check the bearings to see if they needed replaced. I discovered that this drive shaft does not have a sleeve that the bearings ride on. The pinion has to be removed to get the drive shaft out. This must be an early 28 axle thing. I have read the forum about removing the pinion from the banjo on later axles. I assume this would take the same method but thought I would ask first. The bearings feel good from spinning the drive shaft. Maybe I will just adjust the preload and leave well enough alone. All comments are welcome!

Re: Early 28 drive shaft removal
I enjoy reading about the early features, but would things alone if they feel good now. I'm under the impression this isn't a Coast to Coast driver, correct? Bob

Re: Early 28 drive shaft removal
Correct Bob. I am restoring a 29 pickup on a budget but trying to keep everything as correct as possible. The 28 ring and pinion is going in a 29 axle. I know the 3.70 ratio isn't correct but will do since thats what I have.
