Rear Motor Mount Install
I'm installing the rear motor mounts today. Should I use original bolts (on the bottom of the photo) or the replacement ones (on the top of the photo) that came with the new rubber pads? Please note the difference in finish and amount threaded. The car is a "driver", but as I do work I am trying to "do it right".

Re: Rear Motor Mount Install
I just did this same job recently and used the new hardware. The extra thread doesn't make any difference since they are inserted into the metal spacers that pass thru the rubber. Is your new hardware drilled for cotter pins? I can't tell from the photo.

Re: Rear Motor Mount Install
There's no guarantee that the bolts you took out are "original". If the threads are OK on the old bolts, and since these are not in a place where they would be seen, it's a toss-up, IMHO.

Re: Rear Motor Mount Install
After three Model A restorations, I have found out that it is best to always restore and use original hardware. I also know there are a lot of others on the Barn that feel the same way.
They look the best after resto and are made from better stuff than new. Power wire brush; rechase threads when necessary and paint a satin black. If you don't want to paint them, heat them up with a gas axe and dip into used motor oil. That will give you the same look with no paint and be rust-free for a long time. Larry |

How tight should the motor mounts be bolted in?
