Default Lincoln brakes

I want to upgrade my front brakes from the 39 ford brakes to the lincoln self energizing brakes. I see speedway has them for 475 and Thompsons Garage has them for 425. Anyone ever deal with Thompsons or can recommend the best place to get them?

I bought the Bolling Brothers kit from them direct for my '41, very happy.

The rear kit is pictured is $575 and the front is $400 according to their website.

I bought mine from Krylon about 10 years ago. All 4 wheels plus master cylinders, brake shoes and components. Know matter what vendor you select, use your old Ford OEM rear wheel bearings as the re-pops have had issuues with poor hardening resulting in a short life. Very pleased. Great service.

as long as the yards around me had them, I used ford pick up brakes from 48 to 56 when they were no longer available I started using the Bolin Brothers kits, wish I had used them all the time, work great even in the hills of NC. I have installed at least ten sets and all the owners/drivers love them

Tommy....You can't possibly go wrong with the REAL Boling Brothers pieces. As you've been told, Gary (Krylon32) is a dealer and is offering a 10% discount to Ford Barn members.

PLEASE...DO NOT allow yourself to somehow be talked into substituting the repop Lincoln brakes from Speedy Bill's Nebraska speed shop. There have been numerous porblems with their 'look-alike' drums being either out of round, and or out of balance. They look ALMOST identical to the Boling Bros. drums, but are different under close scrutiny. You just cannot beat Gary's offer!! Coop

37 Cab. Check the Boling Brothers website for installation information. I had to do some grinding on the tops of the front spindles to clear the new backing plates, when I did the install on my '46 Coupe. The link below shows pictures of what needs to be done.

I will have to wait until I get them to see what I need to do. My car has aftermarket spindles and bolt on steering arms. Good info though. Thank you.

37: Here's the paper template I made for checking the contour when grinding the top spindle for the Boling Bros. kit. I will mail it to you as a guide if you need it. The run-out of the Boling Bros drums was zero. My bolt-on dropped steering arms with a dropped axle presented no problems. Keep in mind that you can get the Boling kit with either 1 3/4 in. wide
or 2 in. wide brake shoes at no extra cost. I opted for the 2 in.

"REAL"? Interesting that DD would hang such a glorious description these very useful brake accessory products. Real good but not real Lincoln. I know he knows the difference. Try bolting these onto a REAL Zephyr. There is a long parade of old Ford misnomers, such as calling any light duty three speed transmission from '37 to '51 a '39. Even that broad title is violated where we often see earlier cased amalgam fancifully offered as the magic '39. Add that to Ford Model C, C crank, Business coupe with package tray, and Holley 92 called an 81. All food for confusion. This allows some of the big vendors to spoof yall with products like Super 97s. Good Luck: Fred A

C'mon Fred....You SHOULD know me a LITTLE BETTER than that by now! And, you SHOULD know (as you stated) that I "know the difference"!

My choice of wording may not have been as explicit as it possibly could have been, as evidenced by my friend Fred A's current comments & interest in my latest post re: "REAL Boling Brothers' pieces".

Please Fred, and ANY OTHER 'BARNERS out there that may be unclear as to my use of the word "REAL"....it should be clear that my intended reference was toward "REAL Boling Brothers' reproduction brake products", rather than the REPRODUCTION "Bendix Style 1937-48 Ford Brakes" offered by a large speed shop in Nebraska. As I attempted to note in my post, the quality of their drums (which are amazingly similar looking in their appearance to the Boling Bros. drums), is suspect to some degree with many complaints about out-of-round & out of balance conditions. At one point about a year ago, a call to their hotline and questioning of one of their techs disclosed that their drums were, in fact, NOT the same drum as the Boling Brothers' drums. And for what it's worth, I've been assured that the Boling Brothers' drums are manufactured in our beloved US of A!

Also understand that there is NO WAY that I meant to imply that the Boling Brothers' brake products were the SAME THING as "REAL Lincoln brakes", 'cuz they damned sure ain't! Now, back to our regularly-scheduled programming. Coop
