car stalls ehn cornering?
My 29 coupe will stall if I go around a corner fast. Why does this happen? Does not matter how much gas is in the tank or if it is warmed up or not.

Re: car stalls ehn cornering?
My first thought is your float valve isn't set properly.

Re: car stalls ehn cornering?
it does sound like a float problem, as was ststed in another post its set to low and the carb runs out of gas or the float is set to high and its flooding the engine on corners, i would start at the carb and go from there

Re: car stalls ehn cornering?
It was the float level in mine, but I thinkl mine may have been to high (I was having a problem with it stalling when I stop).
Make yourself one of these: Read about it on Chris Pelikan's excellent site here: http://model-a.org/fuel_sight_tube.html Steve |

Might be an intake leak

Check to see if you have an intake leak, worn and loose throttle shaft or a carb set up to lean or as stated in the previous post a low gas level in the bowl. Are you experiencing a back fire upon quick let-off of the accelerator from road speed? If so, you are running lean. Check the items listed above. I have a write-up of a Technical Clinic presented to the Twin Cities Ford Model A Club regarding "Performance Tuning" of the Zenith carb. This is not an article about "Hot Rodding" the carb but rather fine tuning the carb by observing how it performs. Check it out, you may find it helpful at: www.durableperformance.net Look for it on the "Services" page. Good Day! Dave in MN Last edited by Dave in MN; 05-27-2010 at 11:44 AM. Re: car stalls ehn cornering?
It sounds like the carb is not getting enough gas. I had a problem similar to that
I had an electric fule pump that would fill the carb tank at start up but after a few blocks of driving the engine would stop. I pulled the line from the gas tank and there was very little gas flow. there was some sort of block so I shot a blast of air into the tank and have not had any more problem. John |

Re: car stalls ehn cornering?
No backfires at all and car drives really well. Have taken it on numerous 75 plus mile runs wth no problems. If I need to make a tight turn and rush it however, she dies. I will look into adjusting the carb float.

Re: car stalls ehn cornering?
The carb level tube is based on a slack tube MANOMETER, and is typically used to push colored water up the tube and measured with a inch ruler, results: are the natural gas pressure of an industrial gas burner. Adjusted via a gas meter or PV valve [Proportiaonal Control].
The ratio for Natural Gas [1000 btu per cuft] to air is 10:1. Gasoline [182,000 btu per gallon] to air is 14.7:1 by weight, or Propane [2800 btu per cuft]. I forget. Gas burners for start-up usually like about 7" WC~Inch-Water Column and tweaked from there. Interesting gas flames are hottest at the tip-o-flame. While oil fired burners are hotest at the big fat middle of the flame. Any ideas why? skip. |
