Tire Question tubeless vs tube
I have a 1939 Standard Ford Coupe with stock wheels.
I am planning to install Coker Classic wide whitewall radials. Coker suggests that I run tubes with these tires but I am under the impression that people do run these tires without tubes. I would appreciate any comments from those who have these tires on their cars. |

Re: Tire Question tubeless vs tube
Do a search, this has been covered before.
There is an important safety feature for tube less tires missing from the wheels you're using. That is the raised area that goes inside the tire mounting surface in the rim. This keeps the tire from being popped into the center of the rim by sidewall contact. Seems like lots of people don't think this is a likely problem. I've got tubes in mine. Karl |

Re: Tire Question tubeless vs tube
stay with tubes..also get tires that are the proper width for the antique cars. Many manufacturers sell tires that are too wide for true antique cars. Not only do they look wrong but negatively affect the steering with non power steering car.

Safety rims that have a raised rib or area were introduced in about 1940, long before tubeless tires in the mid '50s, and were meant to help keep the tire on the wheel longer during rapid air loss or a blow out. Most/all Coker 16" require tubes, both bias and radial, and I would run tubes with these tires. Last edited by V8 Bob; 05-28-2017 at 06:37 PM. |
