Default Ammeter/Wiring Diagram

I have two wiring diagrams that seem to indicate very different attachments for the dash wiring loom at the ammeter posts. One (left pix) shows the yellow/black wire from terminal box going to charge (passenger side); the other (right pix) shows it going to the discharge (driver side) of the ammeter.

Charles,
I see the contradiction that is bothering you: Bratton says yellow to negative post; your 2nd picture says yellow to positive. The first picture is ambiguous. The good news, like steve norcal indicates, is that you don't have to worry about it; just hook it up so the meter moves in the right direction--discharge with motor off and lights, horn, etc. on. If it deflects the wrong way, just reverse connections, but be sure to keep the dash light with the yellow/black so current to it shows on the meter.

I think it might be a semantic problem, which post should be called positive or negative on an ammeter. The relative positiveness or negativeness of the two posts to each other will flip depending on whether the system is charging or discharging, and on whether you have positive or negative ground.
