Re: Henry ford
Happy Birthday Mr. Ford:
Best wishes, Brad in Maryland PS: Better eat that cake fast before the Model A decorations melt even more! PPS: Photo is an original press release showing Mr. Ford cutting a birthday cake at a private celebrations given by his closest friends when he turned 65 years old (July 1929 according to the photo description). |

Re: Henry ford
I have reservations about the Mr. Ford! Edsel was the real father of the Model-A. Henry Ford might have been a great industrialist, but he hated Jewish people and was decorated by the Nazi's before WWII.

True, but he also doubled the daily wage to $5 which equates to $127 in 2018 money. Not a fortune but not bad. |

Re: Henry ford
He had to double wages. He had to do something to keep workers.

Re: Henry ford
All I know is that The parts my A was made from were made by working men with dirty hands and sore backs. It is to them I extend my thanks and wish them rest in the hereafter.

Yes, and part of the deal was submitting to the control he exercised over workers' personal lives. But the point is regardless of his reasons for doing it, he did it. Much of the criticism of Ford is justified. But the post I replied to called his control over labor "legalized slavery." Hardly, as the workers could walk away whenever they wished. But they didn't because it was double the money they could make elsewhere. |

Re: Henry ford
Henry was not generous. He only doubled workers wages in an attempt to keep them from joining the UAW. Remember, Chrysler and GM signed labor contracts prior to Ford recognizing the UAW. Take a look at the history. Ford hired goons to assault his workers in an attempt to keep them from organizing a union. I give Ford credit for employing the assembly line and making Ford automobiles affordable to the general public. However, he certainly did it for profit.
Henry joined the war effort in spite of his Nazi sympathies; He joined the war effort because he had little choice. The entire county joined the war effort and he could not hold out. Further, I believe he saw a huge profit manufacturing the war effort; planes, jeeps, etc. JMO Having said the foregoing, I still love my 31 Coupe........ |
