How many run Temp & OR Oil Pres. POLL?? UPDATED WITH TIME TO WARM UP Pic
Just was curious to how many installed one in their A.. with our without a thermostat...
This picture of my clock represents the actual WARM UP TIME with following the temp gauge. The car was sitting outside for 8 hours and the temp was 40 degrees.

Re: Curious How many run a Temp Gauge & OR Oil Pres. Gauge POLL??
Planning on running a temp gauge and oil pressure gauge, have both. The oil pressure gauge is likely more for looks than being really useful. Not sure about a thermostat, that will depend more on the running charactoristics of the engine when done. Also may run a tach if I can find a small one that looks vintage. Rod

Thermostat, Water temp, Tach, Oil Press, Clock. Don't know where I'd put it or I'd have a vacuum gauge.

Run a t/stat, both gages, and have an old s/warner motometer (vac Gage) to be installed.

Re: Curious How many run a Temp Gauge & OR Oil Pres. Gauge POLL??
Just a murdermeter......does that count as a gauge?
My coupe had a dead motormeter when I bought it, and I had to shell out $55 plus, to replace the entire top end, cause vendor reports no thermometers available from manufacturer. Hmmmm...something about "too difficult to install". Actually the thermometer simply unscrews from the bottom of the "wreath"....easy peasy. |

Re: Curious How many run a Temp Gauge & OR Oil Pres. Gauge POLL??
Right now I'm running both gauges without the thermostat. I plan on installing a thermostat at a later time before I drive her more. She's a new to me motor and even though the oil doesn't show much pressure upon warm up, until everything is more familiar it’s just a good piece of mind to see the pressure at startup. With the older radiator and conditions here in Florida I won't run without a temp gauge.

I am also using a volt meter, mostly because of the alternator, and the amp meter not registrating after a few minutes of running.

I only use the motometer and ammeter. No thermostat or temp gage or oil gage.

Never found a need to in all the years I've had my A.

I'm running a steam guage. When steam comes out the overflow pipe, the engine is too hot.

Re: Curious How many run a Temp Gauge & OR Oil Pres. Gauge POLL??
I worried about not having these gauges when I first got my A. What if... what if... Only after thousands of miles did the worry and fear go away. I don't even think about them now.

Re: Curious How many run a Temp Gauge & OR Oil Pres. Gauge POLL??
I counted my THERMO-QUAIL as NO temp gauge as the one time I overheated I looked at the thermo quail and it was still NOT REGISTERING as always.
Does anyone's thermo-quail ever show any RED? Thanks. |

Re: Curious How many run a Temp Gauge & OR Oil Pres. Gauge POLL??
I don't run any of them. Motometer in the radiator is all that is needed.
The rest is just not needed.
