Can't drill a 5/16" hole in wood????
My Forstner wood bit set doesn't have a 5/16" bit and metal bits don't drill a clean hole in wood like a Forsner bit does.
I did an ebay search including the description, and using "FORSTNER BITS" I had 1,739 hits. I wanted to buy quality, so I then did a search adding "Made in USA" and the hits dropped to only 59. I then added "5/16" to the search and the hits dropped to 3, and 2 of those sets weren't even Forstner bits and the one remaining set didn't have a 5/16" bit. Why can't a 5/16" Forstner bit be made? I've needed one a few times. |

Thanks Bob. For some reason I never think of Amazon when searching for hardware and tools. I only associate Amazon with book sales.

Nice thing about Amazon -- especially here in Alaska -- is that oftentimes you can get stuff with free freight. I bought a bench vice (heavy) USA made name brand, cheaper than Home Depot, and got it with free freight in just 3 days.

I've been buying from Amazon for the last couple of years. Many times it's much cheaper than eBay plus the shipping is either free or very reasonable.

If you wish to produce a straight, semi-precision hole in wood, try using a drill bit designed for dowel pins. It has a small pointed pilot and both flutes are relieved. Been using them for years with good success. PM me with your address and I will mail you a 5/16"
