Re: ALU drip rails
Some just eliminate the rain gutters & use HIDE-EM Welt instead. They make the little chrome ends, to finish them off.

Re: ALU drip rails
I think I'd get it started with my pocket knife and then carefully pull it apart a little at a time.

Re: ALU drip rails
Hi Henk
The aluminum drip rails are a PIA. Did you use wax between the two pieces before you bent them? I gave up on mine and just mounted the piece that attaches to the car. I'm not going to drive my car in the rain(If I can help it) anyway. The steel gutters probably work better, but they were not available when In did mine Steve |

Re: ALU drip rails
Maybe just use the straight section and cut off the curved inner part.

I guess i'll start splitting them tomorrow. Maybe using a chisal or something. Or perhaps heating them will solve the problem ? Thx for your help, Henk |

Henk,
Don't feel like the "LONE RANGER", I've SEEN/HEARD HORROR stories about dealing with gutters!---As Chief would say, "I feel for you, Buddy, but I can't REACH you"!--LOL Bill Hideemwelt

Re: ALU drip rails
To seperate them, use several tiny flat bladed screwdrivers.
Regarding the comment as to why steel ones are not being made right now. VERY small market. Also, it takes a $100,000 machine to make them, and that machine is being used to make other items more in demand. We sold those steel ones for the few years they were made, and as I recall they were around $100 pair. The aluminum ones are $25 pair. 95% of those folks given the choice bought the cheap aluminum ones. Not a huge demand, therefore not too much of a desire to make them. Steve @ Bert's |

Re: ALU drip rails
Get a piece of hardwood and make a couple of long tapers out of it. About 1/2" wide and 6 to 8" long. Then use a small slot screwdriver to open up the one end and get the taper in there. Then gently tap on the wedge and force the two pieces apart. Go slowly or you'll stretch the aluminum and get it out of shape.
Hope this helps. John Poole |

Re: ALU drip rails
I learned real quick not to snap the two pieces of gutter together until I was ready for final assembly. My real learning curve was how to bend them correctly to fit the roof line of my '28 Tudor sedan. I got them done and it is no show job, but it looks good. Using the original steel gutters, I did the gutters on our 1929 Tudor 50 years ago, it was a breeze, and it is of show quality too.
