Default Running board cover adhesive

Has anyone found a good running board cover adhesive they can recommend? Obviously using cover and adhesive is not the best option, but regardless any suggestions?

Mike, 3M brand rubber adhesive. A quart can is about $50 but the stuff works!

I used a couple tubes of (Shoe Goo) from the local hardware store. 6 years and still tight!

3 M sounds good, I have 3 M stock. The bottom edges need to be clamped with strips of wood inside and out. That's where the problem is. G.M.

Just thinking of doing the 47, do you blast to bare metal to get a good bond?

3M adhesive worked good for me. Make sure you warm them up and check fit before starting. Especially this time of year. Lots of clamps! Paul Selfe.

I ordered a quart of adhesive from Bob Drake and when I it arrived it was Weldwood contact cement. Same stuff you get at Lowe's or Home Depot for half the price. Worked well for me and ran it all last summer under 90° weather.

The 3M 1300 Mike shows worked good for me.

cannot emphasize enough--make sure the fit is correct, do a trial run, on some of the "shoe box" covers they are too wide at the front of the board and will wrinkle very easily

Just like paint failures, adhesive failures can be the result of poor preparation and lack of cleanliness of the surfaces involved. The old painter in me can't abide covering bare metal with a "rubber" cover that would likely trap moisture some way, some how. I always take the boards to bare metal, clean, clean, clean and then epoxy prime then adhesive and cover.

Be real nice if you could powdercoat them. My oven is big, but won't quite fit one of these in. Maybe a good epoxy primer ,as you say, would be the best I could do.

I used Permatex The Right Stuff. Turn out nice and easy to use.
