‘36 5W roof bows
I have two of the 3 original ‘36 roof bows for my 5W coupe. Unfortunately, on the trailer ride home, the roof sucked out of it taking the #3 roof bow, dome light support and the entire fabric headliner! So I purchased new bows and am getting close to installing when I noticed the originals have a wood screw on each end where it connects to the body. Does anyone know what this screw is for? The reproductions don’t have that hole drilled. Wouldn’t be a problem to add it but I’m not sure what it’s for. Also, if anyone has a 3rd bow and a dome light support they want to part with, let me know.

Re: ‘36 5W roof bows
I have seen those wood screws for coupes and sedans as well. I believe that the location is at the curve of the wood bow and the wood grain is straight, so the screw I believe is to reduce the chance of the wood bow splitting at the curve. Anyone else know why for sure?

Re: ‘36 5W roof bows
Sounds logical. Think I should replicate it on the repops?

Ask Don Rogers, I’m sure he knows.

Don't have those screws on the bows on my '36.
