Default 9" Rear in 36 Ford

I would like to put a 9 inch ford rear into my 1936 Ford.
I know that it is a common install. BUT The pinion yokes all seem to be shifted to the right on 9" Ford rears. I put a 74 Bronco rear in with Chassis Engineering leaf springs and the driveshaft will not go into the driveshaft/ transmission tunnel.
It is about 1 inch too far to the right. I don't want to chop up the floor.
Has anyone done this and can you tell me what rear will go into the tunnel?
Thanks

In my 36 5W I used the 57 Ford station wagon 9" w/CE leaf spring set up.Had to adjust the pinion angle with a 2.5 degree shim.Used 1" lowering blocks and all went well

Shorten the 9 inch rear. Or, go with an 8 inch.

I can understand the desire to install a 9", due to their low price and GR availability. Unfortunately they are VERY heavy and can cause problems with handling in a light care, especially under hard braking. Consider they came from PU trucks.

I'm running the same axle (mines from a 68 early Bronco) in my 36 5w with the Chassis Eng. parallel spring set up. The pinion comes somewhat close to the floor pan, so I heated up the floor with a torch and tapped the corner in w/ a big hammer. I have a 3" lowering block in the rear and I have removed the helper springs from the spring pack, and I have never had any issues w/ the pinion hitting the floor pans. My car sits fairly low in the back.

In my opinion it is the best rear end to use under an early Ford.

My cars sits pretty low and has no driveshaft tunnel interference.

Here is the same rear end on a chassis we are building for a 35 Cabriolet.

I've stuck a Jeep Cherokee rear in a 36 and it lines up with the tunnel just fine. No probem clearing the pinion. Cut the spring perches off and welded them to the top.

I'm in the middle of doing a 40, with chassis engineering springs, the same set-up. I am using a 8" from an early (64) fairlane. I don't see any aligment problems, it being somewhat smaller. They should be strong enough for a flathead.

The Jeep rear is a Spicer 35 much lighter than the 8or9" usually come with 3.55 and posi and not very expensive yet!

I've used both,9" 70 ford pick-up,under 40 pick-up,narrowed on one side, 8" -78 Granada under 35 Sedan. I like the 8",fits better,lighter. JMO

An 8 inch is 95 lb lighter than a 9 inch....It will handle 400 hp unless you are drag racing regularly.
The drivline is centered. The axles are different lengths.
As I recall when I did mine there were 7 different ratios available.
Any rear end shop can attach cross spring hangers if you want to go that way....
Remember, welding on any rear end housing will bend it so it needs to be straightened with a test bar afterward.

I have a Versailles 9 inch in my 40 with Chassis Engineering springs. The driveshaft alignment is perfect with the tunnel, but had to move the rearend 1/2 inch forward to center the tires to the fenders.
