Default Torque tube cover gasket

Working on a 1936 ford.
Here is a pic of the torque tube cover and a cork gasket that came with a gasket set for the transmission.

How do you install the gasket ? Is any type of sealer used ?

You may want to consider using a non-stock seal such as the one made by Hot Rod John as discussed here. Let us know what you decide.

Press this cork gasket in to the channel of each half of the universal joint cover. Each end should be slightly above "flush" so when this is all assembled, the opposing ends will crush in to one another.
I use the handle end of a screw driver to push this seal in to the channel. No sealer is really necessary. However, if it makes you more confident, place a dab of Permatex® #2 on each end where the covers will mate.
Personally, I have installed dozens of this type of seal with no issues.

The other alternative is felt, which Roy Nacewicz at Fordbolts.com supplies. It's a lot easier to install and doesn't dry out (from shelf time) or break.

AS Kube said. It is a bit of a fiddley job

The chance of leaking will be most likely be from the gaskets , they are very thin. I see in your picture you have sanded it [them] flat its a good start, you may want to do a little more. Put some sticky Permatex on those gaskets and you'll be fine.
