Torque tube cover gasket
Working on a 1936 ford.
Here is a pic of the torque tube cover and a cork gasket that came with a gasket set for the transmission. How do you install the gasket ? Is any type of sealer used ? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Re: Torque tube cover gasket
You may want to consider using a non-stock seal such as the one made by Hot Rod John as discussed here. Let us know what you decide.

I use the handle end of a screw driver to push this seal in to the channel. No sealer is really necessary. However, if it makes you more confident, place a dab of Permatex® #2 on each end where the covers will mate. Personally, I have installed dozens of this type of seal with no issues.

Re: Torque tube cover gasket
The other alternative is felt, which Roy Nacewicz at Fordbolts.com supplies. It's a lot easier to install and doesn't dry out (from shelf time) or break.

The chance of leaking will be most likely be from the gaskets , they are very thin. I see in your picture you have sanded it [them] flat its a good start, you may want to do a little more. Put some sticky Permatex on those gaskets and you'll be fine.
