Re: Antique Nationals 2016
This is seriously going to cut into my El Mirage prep time.
El Mirage runs May 14,15 crossed fingers for "minor" oil leaks.........

Thanks for the notification. Sure would be nice to get to that event before moving on ! Regarding oil leaks. I've started up a warmed up B, that has full pressure filtered oil system. One piece rear crank oil seal (Burtz). Have it on stand, of sorts, and have started it several times...for only enough time (10 sec) to clock 40/45 lbs oil pressure. NO OIL LEAKS, out the back seal..thus far. In you experience, should I have leak at rear seal by this procedure (priming/pressurizing system) or can I breathe easy |

Re: Antique Nationals 2016
hardtimes,
I can only tell you this, mine never leak when I am looking for a leak. I do prime systems, dry sump externally with a drill and can see 50 psi on gauge. I can run it on the dyno for a day, nothing. If I put it into the car and wait one week, I get oil samples on the ground. I have come to the conclusion that a car must leak, no matter what. The Burtz seal works well, no doubt. All work well when installed correctly. It is just a matter of time. If you wanted a clean garage floor, start with a BMW. John

Thanks, I think ! I agree, if installed correctly they work well. I have a warmed B that is running for 10 yrs now without leaks....full pressure, Burtz rear seal and new C crank from Dan Eubanks. Hm, what the heck ever happened to Dan , as he seemed to disappear . The difference in this newly made B, is that it contains an old b-ville C crank (repaired ) from Jim. Crank repairs /concentricity must have been good as no leak for now. |
