gearshift lever ball repair
the ball on the end of my 29ccpu shift lever is badly worn,anybody have experience welding it up and grinding it round? I'm going to attempt it,pointers would be helpful,thanks.

Yes I did! I MIGged it, then I forged it round it on my anvil and worked it on my freehand grinder. Then I finished it off with a file. I used a shifting fork as gauge. You must not only fit it to the slot, but allow it to make the "Throw" to get into the various gears. Go to my albums, "My A" and there are pics in there.

I gas welded mine. You can control the flow and make a pretty round ball that requires little shaping afterwards.

Just use a washer with the same size hole as the OD of the ball for a guage.Weld,grind,file and fit until the ball is the same size as the hole in the washer.

I like that idea! Excellent. It should be 1/2 inch if I remember. I use to braze them up and shape them round Larry shepard |
