Question ‘35 to hydraulic brake conversion (Early V8 Garage kit)

On my 35 to hydraulic brake conversion it is going well. I am getting to the point that I’m ready to put a remote reservoir on the firewall to make it easier when it needs attention to add fluid or bleed the brakes so you don’t need to remove the front driver seat to get to the hole you put in the floor to give access to the master cylinder when using the Early conversion kit. I see several remote reservoir kits but need a fitting to feed the line into the post ‘40 Ford master cylinder needed to replace the threaded plug?

I simply drilled and tapped the m/c lid, 1/4 NP and screwed in an appropriate fitting to take the hose from the remote cylinder.

My friend drilled his cap 1/8" npt, screwed a 1/8"npt x 1/4" inverted flare 90 degree fitting, and ran a 1/4" brake line up to the reservoir.

The vintage all metal cap had vent holes out the sides that he plugged.

Most of the master cylinder caps are pot metal and vented so the vent would have to be blocked.

Doesn’t sound like there’s a reducer fitting made to get from the cap thread size to the 1/8 npt X 1/4?

That's why the cap needs to be drilled and tapped.

1/8" npt was chose due to the cap being relatively thin and care was taken not to oversize the threads or overtighten the fitting.

The modern plastic cap that came with the master didn't look like a good bet and an older all metal cap was used instead and the side vents plugged as mentioned.

Thx all for the ideas & help. Dennis, Rich’s son replied on The Hamb. By the time I’d gotten the instructions I was past needing them & either figured it out or came up w my own solutions.

I'm not much of a vintage Ford mechanic but for the 35-38 hydraulic brake conversions I have done I always used a 39 pedal assembly. Is that a problem with the Lacy kit?

The Lacy kits use the stock pedals and the existing mechanical linkage to operate a MC. I used a Lacy kit in my '38 and the MC is was installed near the center X frame and was hard to get at. I later changed over to '39 pedals when I went to a T5.

Krylon32, The Lacy kit used a ‘39-46 MC mounted clocked 90 degrees in a sub frame under the drivers seat mounted to the frame utilizing 3 existing holes on the frame. On the ‘35 kit it uses the ‘35 pedals w new linkage going to linkage in the subframe thru the 90 degree clock to the MC. I believe each yr has a kit designed to use the brake pedal assy in that year. Earlier in this thread u can see a pic of the kit I described in a frame w body lifted.

I used the philosophy that there was less than a 10% chance the mechanical brakes would ever be reinstalled. My customers weren't building 100pt. restorations. I'm sure the Lacy products are very high quality. My being a Boling Bros Lincoln brake dealer was why I did it my way. Also fabricated my own brake lines. Everything worked out good.

I used boling Bros. Front Lincoln type bendix brakes, rebuilt a set of rear Lockheed ‘40 brakes, & fabbed the brake lines. Used the Lacy parts Only for the MC & E-Brake kits.
