Default Opinions on 1930 license plate color for michigan.

What paint color could be bought at a mix shop that deals with omni or any brand you know of? I thought school bus yellow but that may be to bright. I had read a thread on license plates which got me on the hunt for my own plates. I bought a pair of plates that were blackened by shelac or smoke or both. If any one knew what color or wants to add what color they think would look correct that would be helpful. I sanded them and did some test painting of the numbers. The card boards stamp idea didnt work. It stamped some areas but the plates were a bit bent. So it only painted half of the numbers and got some of the flats. Using my finger as a paint brush and some q tips with naptha to clean up slips. I produced good looking numbers and lettering. My camera isnt connecting so I am including the first google picture I find of a plate that represents the color I want. I still need to fully paint them because I have some open metal to cover in the yellow.

What I'd do is find some places on both or either plate that would clean up to help determine the color. Go to a paint store and ask to look some fleet color chips. You should be able to find a close match that they could mix for you.

My license plate reference book lists 1930 Michigan as black on orange.

Michigan 1930 plates had black text on yellow/orange background. In 1931 the plates were black with red text.
