Model BF Ford carb (1932-34)
Hello,
Someone knows the characteristics of the carburetor mounted on the 1932 british model BF Ford (Float, etc ...)? This is a Zenith Ford 33 vem. I tried other carbs (model A, model AF and model B Ford carb ) but the engine didn't run fine. Thank you. |

Zenith made a range of venturi sizes to fit the Model-B type carburetor: 17, 19, 20, 22, 24, and 26mm. Maybe try a narrower one, if you can find it?

You can put two of these carbs on one engine, dual updraught, and I gather it runs fine. That's one carb for two cylinders. What does "didn't run fine" mean? |

Gabalus
Contact John Charlton on here, He knows a lot about the pot metal carbs fitted to the BF engine The Zenith vem pot metal carb is totally different than the cast iron one fitted in the USA John Cochran |

Re: Model BF Ford carb (1932-34)
As John says, the potmetal VEM 2 carb is totally different from the iron Model B carb. So the jets are not interchangeable.
For the small bore BF engine I think that the VEM carb has a smaller venturi cast into it so not interchangeable with 24hp. I do not have a BF VEM 2 carb body with the smaller venturi. I have a 1928 AF Phaeton with the small bore 14.9 engine. It would not run well on an original AF carb, with correct jets and small venturi, so I fitted a regular 24hp Tillotson bolted up to the small bore 14.9hp inlet manifold. It runs like a champ even though there is not a matching bore size between carb and manifold. Check that you have got the correct small bore inlet manifold. If you have the 24hp manifold it will never run well, no matter what carb you try. Your inlet manifold bore should be 1" Best regards John in stormy changeable sunny Suffolk UK |
