Yes it is. When I got it, the first thing I did was to test it by blowing through it and I was successful.

I learned that lesson the hard way, when I put my initial electric pump on the car.

When I was a mechanic Airtex offered a catalog with the specifications for each electric fuel pump, voltage, pressure and if it was "open" or "closed" when it was off. Most of them were closed in the off position so the fuel would not drain back into the tank when the power was cut off. If I remember right, there only about one pump that had low enough pressure for an early carb like a Stromberg and that was "open" so it could be used as a backup fuel pump for priming systems so the mechanical pump could still pull through it when it was off. You want to mount the electric pump near the fuel tank and mount a fuel filter before the pump, between the tank and the pump. If you're going to drive it a lot, you don't need the electric fuel pump to prime the engine but if it's going to sit awhile between trips it's probably a good idea to have one.

Napa or an OEM dealer or a wrecking yard.

Shoebox,

Since the Airtex is not available any more (but if you can find one buy it), I would guess he ordered the same on I did:

Junk yards are full of them. Good idea Pete. our track didn't allow electric pumps.

I don't think any tracks allowed them in the old days.
We always ran a stock pump pressurizng the tank. It would maintain 6 lb as long as the engine was turning over.
Worked good on the street also.

How would one test the current functionality of the inertia switch - how do I know it is actually going to work when I really need it?

I got a Painless Performance one on Amazon. A little pricey, but I figured it beat the alternative!! You can test the continuity prior to installation by shaking it. (I didn't have a wrecking yard option.)

I went with one of the fuel pumps linked above, it didn't even run long enough to build pressure in my fuel system before it died.
When I bought my car it had a fuel pump just like this one https://www.amazon.com/Carter-P4259-...yABEgKjs_D_BwE after sitting in a rotting barn for years before I got ahold of it. When I put power to it the car it still worked, my own stupidity ended up killing it. I went with the original style that was on the car, put in a fuel pressure regulator and toggle switch. I haven't looked back since
