Maybe I missed something but does drawing show that the slot in the FORD distributor is NOT centered. So that it will only install one way.

It is offset a small amount as designed originally.

I understand the offset I was wondering what the diameter of the 0.25" groove was possibly it is not critical looks like a O-Ring groove

The "ORing" groove is a groove for use with the special bolt that holds the distributor in the head.

Every year many people break the dist housing because they do not know about the groove and special bolt.

https://modelastore.com/engine?product_id=4207

They loosen bolt a couple of turns and when distributor will not come out a crowbar is used which breaks casting.

This happens often!

.875" Diameter. Is for retaining set screw and lock nut.

FYI. the tang is offset by .028" from the center.

The offset in the drawing is called out from the OD of the shaft to one side of the tang flat.

The hold down groove is a brilliant FORD simple solution. The impingement should only be enough to keep it from rotating !

I bought a re manufactured in Japan Hitachi Datsun B210 points distributor for $36 plenty of Hitachi based options out there for under $80 Points and Dizzy. I only need a new cap and rotor plus a little time on the lathe and mill.

The 74 Datsun 210 Hitachi Distributor arrived. It is a well made piece of hardware. I know the old 210 used to get to 4-500K without much effort. This donor part should serve the FORD Model A well!

Great deal fully rebuilt for $36 delivered! I still need to spend about $16 for premium rotor and cap from ROCKAUTO. No complaints. I see new HItachi clones are available for under $80 with points Even Less if you want the Dizzy under $70

We owe a debt of gratitude to Corey for pointing this option out!
