Default "B" Y-Block intake ready to install

Just wanted to share my Y-Block intake I just had coated. This will be going on my 57 Wagon. I blew the 292 a few weeks back. New one should be going in this weekend. I'm still waiting for the headers to come in from Reds Headers.

Shot of the firewall, bad pic but you get the idea. The original white paint was pretty stained up and just looked nasty.

Lancer,

That's a sharp looking hunk of metal! I have one for my 292 as well. Be sure to "blow it out" well to ensure there is no residual blast media in the runners. A friend of mine put on a reconditioned "shiny" intake on his 351C and found out too late that blast media was still inside. The grit "Bon-Ami'd" one whole bank of cylinders in no time and it started smoking. He had to get new pistons (rebored the cyls.). He had chosen this one over an original greasy looking one on the internet. He says he wishes he had chosen the greasy one!

Scrubbing it out goes without saying - but are you using the original carb? The B manifold carb ports are sized pretty small and don't match well with a larger carb's butterflies (like a 600 cfm Holley).

An isolator designed for the small holes - opened on the topside to the diameter of the carb outlet works pretty well as a transition.

What Greenbird says about the isolator. I have a 500 cfm Edelbrock and the secondaries would not open all the way until I opened up the ports and installed an insulator.
Also consider doing the "Mod" on the manifold to get a little more out of it.

Found a picture of the Moroso brand 1/2 inch isolator being opened to the larger carb gasket on the top side. Just takes a wood rasp and a plan.

The isolator makes a huge difference in temp transfer to the fuel which is way beneficial to avoiding vapor lock symptoms / boiled out fuel bowls on starting / etc.

I do have a spacer that will be going under the Edelbrock carb. Thanks for the info on blowing the manifold out well before using.
