Default 54 Mercury emergency brake question

Can anyone advise of the junction where the emergency cables split going to the rear tires is supposed to be routed over the exhaust cross over pipe.?? The cable set up appears tp be resting on the exhaust pipe.

The equalizer bar/cables should be routed under the exhaust pipe and in no way come into contact with the driveshaft.

Thank You!! That is what I suspected. Someone put a new exhaust system on the car and didn't take time to take the assembly apart AND REROUTE IT under the crossover pipe. I was having trouble getting the cables to loosen up and discovered what you see in the photo
