Default 28/29 RPU Irons

If made available, assuming they were affordable, who would be looking for 28/29 open cab top irons.

Me.
I was planning on buying the folding irons from LeBaron Bonney but they are no more.

I have seen a lot of activity on the Open Cab Pickups and I would like to see what the demand is for the irons.

Demand IMO is going to depend on how authentic they are. In exacting detail (-higher $$) will always have more demand however if the price exceeds perceived value, then maybe sales would be much slower?? I would think that two separate runs of 25 would have the market saturated. You best get your tooling costs covered in the first 10-15 sets. Sell your first set of 25 and determine if you want to go the 2nd time.

Is this consideration for the original type fixed top or is this for something else such as a folding aperatus?

My interest is in the original non-folding authentic irons.

Boy would I like to find a replacement for the center iron on my 28 RPU. On my way to Charlotte car show, the wind got to my truck ripped the top to shreds, and tore off the center iron. I have ordered the fabric top, but do not know what to do about the iron!

The single part could be fabricated but is would certainly be a challenge. Ford incorporated the wood into the parts in a manner that makes the task even more difficult unless the wood was replaced with nylon, PVC, or some other plastic material to act as the tacking strip.

This link has some nice photos for folks that aren't familiar with the open cab top structure.

Has anyone tried using Bondo for a tacking strip? I think I will try this.

What price do you think is appropriate for a spot on authentic set?

Ron, just curious what establishes that price in your mind. If you truly needed a set to complete a restoration, then the price is moot.

Russ/40, Why not do the research to determine what the price will be and then see what interest there is?
