Default 1932 steering box o/h

Any tips for installing the lower bearing race in the box ?
Having a difficult time getting it to seat fully in the recess. Tried heating surrounding area and cooling race as well as drawing it in with thick washers and a bolt, no luck.

It sounds like you have a to large cup compare it with your old one , looking through the bottom hole sometimes it looks like its not seated but it is as there's a ridge in there I have used a brass drift ,Ted

It should go in then !A press is best but try n put it on a solid surface such as a concrete floor and drift it in evenly .If you haven't got a brass drift A 3/4 mild steel rod may be soft ? enough to not damage the hardened seat

Check the Dennis Lacy thread over on the HAMB. He shows the proper sequence for rebuilding a 32 box from start to finish.

Try this:

https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...-11-16.970252/

I scanned through and found steering box stuff starting on page 10. There do seem to be some lost images though, which is a shame.

I had forgotten what a well documented thread it was for anyone building a traditional modified Early Ford.

Mart.
