So far, it seems the guys that want a 5 main block already have a crank. I don't know who makes one, or I forgot, if I ever knew.

Hey George,

Yeah, a 5 main and 5 cam bearing block sounds wonderful, I agree !
Regarding 5 main cranks for this block, the crank people that I've talked to , say that they can and will make any crank that you can..provide the specs for... pay for..ha !

They want to know what your specs are for the 5 main crank.

Can you tell me what exactly they are asking for when they request such specs Since you make stuff from hunks of metal, you are the member who I think about when this machinist need for crank info is stated.

WE could use some (crank) specificity/input here when considering which of Tods block configurations to order from him.

They would need every thing. length of crank, where the mains are located, dia of mains and rod journals. Stroke, spacing of rod journals, counter weight or not. How wide the jounals are, flywheel location, size and thickness of flange, snout dia and distance from main. And every thing else that I forgot.

I know that Velasco and Molex have made cranks before, they could be a good source of info.
Also, Crower has made them before.

But like Dick says, you have to "pay to play".

Hey John,
Don't know if anyone here knows of a Canadian guy (model T engines) named Les Schubert. Recently, I've seen somewhere where Les made up several model T short blocks. These T short blocks contained awesome 'knife edged counter weigh' looking FIVE MAIN Crower made cranks. I saw a picture of one such short block, but unfortunately I am not computer skilled enough to bring such articles/pictures to this site..bummer.

So, Crower has made and does make such cranks, if you can give specs and afford it ! If I had the choice ($/specs), Crower would be my choice for such 5 main FULL SIZE DRILLED B style crank....if there is such an animal.

Now back to regular scheduled block maker..Tod
Hey Tod,
When you say 5 main alum block with B tail, can you say if all 5 mains are the B block size ? And, what of bearing shells (inserts) , can block be made to accept a 'commonly available' insert or what ?
I'm thinking that guys will be using inserts with your alum block offerings. I will.

Yes, all 5 mains would be B size. Inserts should be no problem.

Probably. Prus Jr., who is building this first running iron block wants to have it running at Hershey. I just hope something unforeseen doesn't stop that plan. One of the next aluminum blocks should be able to be there, too.

Block was poured at 10am today. Everything went as planned. Shake out is in a couple of hours, when we learn if it is good, bad, or just ugly. Fingers crossed!

Hey Tod,
Anticipation !
Pictures and news is always welcome ! Lemons to lemon juice , if bad/ugly.
Like taking the wrappings off of something that you've waited for a long time ! I'm betting on great news, for first pour.

Well, the block isn't perfect, but no doubt usable. There was a core that broke (probably was glued at the core shop) and that chunk of sand caused a couple of voids that will need welded up. Purely cosmetic stuff. Over-all the block looks fantastic.

The only problem I can see with the video is that it gives away just how I do this. I'll have to put it together and see if I want to share it. I might wait until it is all cleaned up and then take pictures.

Pictures of what you want to show would be OK by me.BTW, I'm not a buyer, just think the effort deserves to be recognized. Real racers will be standing in line.

I think I'll put either one of my new aluminum Winfields on this when it is built, or maybe a new Thomas when I get the first ones cast.
