Braking While In Reverse
Hey guys, I recently took out my car for a spin, and was forced to reverse. So, when I was reversing, the brakes failed (Luckily no one was around). But, the brakes worked perfectly when I was in any other gear besides reverse. Any thoughts or answers on how this happened?
Thanks in advance, Skyler K. |

They are mechanically worn or out of adjustment, and so part of your braking is coming from them trying to self-energize. . |

Re: Braking While In Reverse
Is this a new car to you? When I first bought mine it had some goofy brake problems. I found the right rear had no parking brake, and the left rear had the parking brake lining attached by one rivet. This made it lock up in one direction, but not the other. I'd pull all 4 brake drums and see what's in there.

Re: Braking While In Reverse
Thanks for the replies guys, and yes the car is new to me. My car currently has the parking brake unoperational, as the apparatus is not attached to the cross shaft currently. At the moment, I do not see a possibility at me taking the brake drums off by myself as I really have no experience with the car. Thanks for the help!

Re: Braking While In Reverse
Suggest you get les Andrew's books, at least the "red" one. Lots of info, and the A is very simple.

Re: Braking While In Reverse
The parts suppliers have the Les Andrews books for $30 or $40.
