What are they called??

V8 COOPMAN- Will the NOS 47/48 shock mounts work if you just want to convert the shocks from Houd to tube type shocks on a standard suspension setup ?

Within reason.........YES! Keep in mind that any time we use the word "convert", some modification and re-work is usually involved. The whole idea here is to get the UPPER mount for the tube shock elevated to a point that a reasonable-length tube shock can be safely and efficiently mounted. The '47-'48 mount MAY necessitate SOME mods in mounting to effectively afford the correct geometry for the situation (since this is NOT a '47-'48 Ford), or the particular car being modified. DD

They are available from many of the "hot rod" supply houses, and bolt-on using the original shock mounting holes. Tube shocks on that car are very "do-able"! DD

The instructions with these after market shock mounts for a 35/36 chassis say to remove the stock "perch bolts" and replace with the bolts provided.
When I look at what I believe are my original perch bolts and the thought of removing them with everything still attached, I get beyond concerned and question doing this.
Has anyone installed these with good results ? ..... Thanks

Can you tell why the original bolts need to be removed and replaced? Are you not able to adequately mount the bottom of the shocks? A few more details or pictures would surely help us to help you. To attempt to remove the stock perch bolts with the axle under the car is just about un-thinkable. DD

I found some used old ones thanks to coopman and they bolted right in. No issues what so ever.

Here are a couple pictures Solo posted on an earlier thread on these shocks. Don't know if these are trimmed '35-'36 perch bolts or later bolts. Also have seen the dual eye perch bolts from the later '40's used with tube shocks. Many of the ones I have seen had shock studs that fit the taper in perch bolt eye.

Thanks for those pictures. Perfect, it's what I was hoping. I'll have those puppies on tomorrow morning.

I just used the stock wishbone shock bolts and the top. I didn't have to do anything to either. Everything just bolted right in.

If you're okay with aftermarket, Chassis Engineering makes a tube shock conversion kit for your car. They use an extended shackle bolt as a lower locating point for their shock. The upright is strong, it bolts on in two planes.

CE makes good stuff, been doing it for years. P/N is AR-2037

You'll have to disassemble your spring and shackles again to install.
