Re: Schramm air compressor
Yes, the plugs in the valve pockets need to come out and be replaced with valves. The intake and carbs also need to be replaced too. Mine ran and made air before I put the block in my P/U and mated it to my T-5. Al K.

Great shot of the starter to oil pan area. We had more than one discussion about putting a brace between the starter bolt and the pan. -VT/Jeff |

Re: Schramm air compressor
spent some time around a schramm drill rig welding casings. we also had a few compressors but they were the later 4, 6 and twin 4 type that was all schramm. they loved to drink gas. the schramm tractors were neat too. everything about them was heavy duty.
i had a V8 ford water pump that was also built in west chester, did schramm ever build them or just air compressors ? |

Re: Schramm air compressor
I have two of the Schramm Fordair's and even with the manual I wanted to understand the slowdown and unloader valves better before starting. So a simple test which I learned alot and I feel is a good check is with to hook up an airline from another compressor with a regulator valve with the Schramm not running. Then slowly turn the regulator pressure up and down and you can test all the unloader and slowdown valves easily. Also will see if the pressure relief works properly.
Also a good idea to remove the intake and pressurize the unloader valves so you can see if they are working properly. Andy

Re: Schramm air compressor
With those numbers, either way, shows it built in 1946 as a FORDAIR.

Re: Schramm air compressor
Skidmarks, I don't know if Schramm ever made water pumps. There was a company named National Foam that was in Westchester but move to Exton,Pa in the early 50's. They made fire engines and may have made pumps. Also Hale fire pump was in the area. G.M.

Re: Schramm air compressor
Not to hijack the thread, but it brought to mind this picture I took at Zolfo Springs FL years ago. I first thought this was a 337, but not so. Living in the backyard of Gordon Smith Co. air compressors converted from Fords interest me. I don't know if this is a Shramm or a Smith or ?? Maybe it will help identify the carbeuretor.

That's a Schramm, pre 39. I have a Smith compressor also with a modle A engine. I never fooled with it. I may sell it if anyone is interested. G.M.

Re: Schramm air compressor
Attached are some pictures of the Schramm Fordair 60 Crawler. By Schramm records they produced 150 crawlers, this one it number 23 or 24 made ( I forget which, will have to look that up again). This was produce with full rubber tracks, which they had a lot of problems with throwing a track when you turned, Schramm recalled the early ones and fit with steel track, which is what the later ones came with. For some reason this one was never refitted with steel tracks.

Re: Schramm air compressor
Thanks guy, Was about a 5 year project. Took about 2.5 years dealing on making tracks for it.
Tony, Attached are some scans on the Fordair 60, I have about 25 pages scanned. If you want to send me your email I will send to you. Jim |
