Default Rear hub fitting?

Ive got the rear drum/ hub assemblies off the coupe to fit 48 rear lower shock mounts. They took quite a bit of pulling to get them off and the question I have is,on reassembly do you apply grease to the axle tapers or fit them dry?I thought that if they had been fitted and greased they would have come off a whole lot easier, so do they need to be a metal to metal fit ?Assembling parts with lube seems the natural thing to do but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask on here to make sure.

TIA.

Use of anti seize depends on the torque application of the tapered fit joint. While it is commonly used on low torque applications, it is not common on high torque applications. The condition of the internal and external taper is very important to aid the key in arresting torque movement of any kind in the joint. The tapers sometime require lapping to repair imperfections from passed sheared keys or fretting with metal transfer. The key has to be tight in keyways of both parts too.

This old technology coupling system had it's ups and downs and it is rarely used in todays engineering design. Splines with collets have replaced most high torque applications.

The axle taper to the hub is a dry fit, no lube in this area. Not even never-sieze, which is considered a lubricant.
