1930 Coupe Running Board Trim
I am going to replace the running board mat on my 1930 Coupe and was wondering if I can re-use that outer edge trim strip. Is there an easy way to un-crimp this strip and re-use it?
Thanks! |

Re: 1930 Coupe Running Board Trim
I made up a simple tool from a 1`piece of strapping about 12`long.
Take the strap and hammer it out to a taper. Then grind it smooth 80 grit should work fine or a file will do. radius the corners a little and then put the strap in a vise and heat the end up about 1/2" and hammer it to a 90 deg. bend. then take the piece out of the vise and hammer the end over 180 degs. I put a small piece of metal into the folded over area to create a gap. Now you've got a hooked tool that you can use to ease the lip open to remove the strip. If you go easy it works well. I also use this tool to open up damaged fender beads that need to be welded. Hope this Helps: The Old Tinbasher P.S. I also have a phone # of a guy in California that make the right shaped moulding for the inside edge, if you need it. |
