Question 1930 Coupe Running Board Trim

I am going to replace the running board mat on my 1930 Coupe and was wondering if I can re-use that outer edge trim strip. Is there an easy way to un-crimp this strip and re-use it?
Thanks!

Wink Re: 1930 Coupe Running Board Trim

I made up a simple tool from a 1`piece of strapping about 12`long.

Take the strap and hammer it out to a taper. Then grind it smooth 80 grit should work fine or a file will do. radius the corners a little and then put the strap in a vise and heat the end up about 1/2" and hammer it to a 90 deg. bend. then take the piece out of the vise and hammer the end over 180 degs. I put a small piece of metal into the folded over area to create a gap. Now you've got a hooked tool that you can use to ease the lip open to remove the strip. If you go easy it works well. I also use this tool to open up damaged fender beads that need to be welded.

Hope this Helps: The Old Tinbasher

P.S. I also have a phone # of a guy in California that make the right shaped moulding for the inside edge, if you need it.

Here's some shots of the hook tool. You can adjust the hook as you like to hook the edge and open it up. Hope this helps.
