I have had LBB sideviews on my 68C hinges for a long time.
They are the ones that are "not for slant windshild cars."
I do have a 3.75" convex mirror stuck on the passenger side one since it didn't have the proper view without the stick on. (I saw telephone poles and fences, but not cars along side.)

Mark, please email me your phone number. I have devised a very useful and attractive mirror setup that will not injure your finish. Clinton Perry, [email protected].

I have tried a couple of different clamp-on mirrors, and I was not happy with either one. One could not be adjusted to a useable angle, and on the other the clamp was too big and interfered with the door closing.

Seems that the ONLY Solution that i have found is a peep mirror on the Wind Wings, looks good and functions well. Any one else have any suggestions at this time?

Don't give up. If I get motivated I will take some pictures of what I did to solve the very problem you are having. I did drill and tap some holes in the hinge but did not damage the paint. It's do you want to see the blind spot or just look at your nice paint job when you change lanes?

I used the black pickup mirror brackets (Bratton's # 24230, 50). I think that I had to drill the bracket holes bigger for the bigger pin and I had to find longer pins.

I just recently mounted a side view mirror on the right side of my Victoria using the hinge pin. The previous owner had installed the same arrangement on the left side years ago. I thought the right side would be a simple task.

What I dioscovered was that the hinge pins on slant window cars are larger in diameter and the hinge pin mirrors offered by suppliers won't fit.

The hinge pins on most Model A's, according to supplier documentation are .233-.236 in diameter. Oversize pins with a .244 diameter are also available to be used with bored out repaired hinges. The Victoria, Cabriolet, and slant window sedans, which have only two hinges per door instead of three, have a larger diameter pin. Supplier documentation indicates the diameter is .279 according to Snyder and Mac's, and 9\32" (.281) according to Bratton. Neither supplier offers an oversize pin.

Accessory outside rear view mirrors that mount on the door hinge have a shaft pin that is sized to fit a standard Model A and cannot be used on the Victoria, Cabriolet, and slant window sedans. Neither Snyder, Mac's nor Bratton supply a hinge-mounted mirror to accommodate these cars.

What I did was remove the top hinge pin on the right side. It measured a nominal 0.300. Someone must have bored it out and made a pin for it. I had a machinist friend make a new pin on a lathe the same size only longer. The bottom end was made smaller and threaded for the 1\4-20" acorn nut that comes with the mirror that is not supposed to fit a slant window car. The top hole of the mirror bracket was drilled out to fit the pin. I had to add a 0.010 shim between the hinge and the mirror bracket.

Looking at the left side it appears that a larger pin was fabricated for that side as well.

I now have a well suited mirror on the right side and I can see cars lurking in the blind area.

I went out in the cold garage and took some pictures of the 400A and also one of the pickup mirror. When I installed them on the 400, I copied the technique used on the pickup. Along with the aforementioned pin problem, I found the mirror you buy from the suppliers won't come back far enough to be able to adjust the head so you can see. Out came the dremel tool and I just started grinding off the part that was hitting until it folded back in a suitable position for adjustment. The mounting is quite solid. Drilling the holes was not that difficult.

I have the same setup as John Stone.

The driver side mirror works great in seeing the traffic behind you BUT on the passenger side I can't bend the mirror head enough to have a clear view.

What to do about it? I do have 6 inch mirrors on them now but even with 4 inch mirrors it does not work.

Been there done that. Mirrors are just a blur due to vibration of the sidemounts. Also, I had leather straps and the first time they got wet, they slid back on the tire. They look nice but if you are going to drive your car, try for some good mirrors. If you see'em coming, you might be able to get out of the way.

That is why you have to grind on the inside of the mount next to the door hinge to get the bracket to move back. I ground on both side to get the desired result.

Joop: Mine's a tudor, hinge mount mirrors. Left side OK. "formed the rh side a bit and if I sit a "skosh" to the right it's fine. I don't have a dremel.
