New Guy
Not sure if it's customary on this forum to introduce oneself after joining, but it is on some of the other forums I belong to, so here goes. I've loved V-8 Fords since I was a kid; we had a '46 convertible since before I was born and I got to drive that in high school in the '80s. Then it was restored, and eventually sold to finance another restoration.
Fast forward 30 years. I have a couple other old cars ('63 MG, '25 Dodge), but it's always been in the back of my mind to try to find a nice driver-quality '46-48 convertible. A '47 Mercury (close enough) miraculously popped up on my local craigslist, and I'm now strongly considering pulling the trigger. I've been to look at it once and will go back and drive it Saturday. If I do make the purchase, I'm sure I'll be coming back with questions/etc. If not, I'll probably fade into the background. ;-) This seems like a really good forum with a lot of activity and knowledgeable fold. |

Re: New Guy
Welcome. This is the best V8 forum I have ever found. We look forward to hearing back from you often weather you purchase that '47 Merc or not. Check out the Early Ford V8 Club web page also. There are always cars on there for sale as well.

Re: New Guy
jag, Welcome, over time I think that you will find that there is a wealth of info from members available on this site. One suggestion I can make is to join the V-8 Ford Club of America, if you purchase that Mercury.

Re: New Guy
Thanks guys. We belonged to the Early Ford V-8 Club back in the day and the '46 was a Dearborn award winner after restoration. (not nearly as fun to drive then, though)
Out of superstition, I hesitate to post pics before a deal is consumated, but here's a link to the ad: https://chambana.craigslist.org/cto/5755514681.html We've negotiated a price and the wife has even "sort of" given a blessing, I just need to decide if I want to jump off the cliff. |

Re: New Guy
As if I need more encouragement. It's really ideal for how I like to use old cars: drive them. Nicely done, but not so pristine that I'm afraid to drive it.
I'll report back after this weekend, but if the drive goes well I'm pretty sure I'll do it. Thanks for the moral support. |

Re: New Guy
Man, you guys are relentless! But, seriously I do value your opinion. I've been on other forums where as soon as a new guy joins and starts posting pics of his new acquisition or potential acquisition, several immediately start telling him all the things wrong with the car.

Re: New Guy
Wow. my drool cup just overflowed! Love everything about that car. Had a 47 Mercury Coupe in the early 60's and it has always been one of my favorites. Welcome aboard.
