Well, that's not too hard to do sometimes, but in the case of racing-type "belly tanks", surely you realize their original source, and even more-so with the original P-38 drop-tanks supposedly being one of the favorites of discerning & 'picky' go-fast guys. DD

Oh, I knew it all right, but it would never have crossed my mind to mention it. I am speaking of tendencies here, not knowledge.

Coopman, I had one of those Tanks. I sold it to Bobby Green.

Just a quick update. At World Finals in September I ran 189.593. I'm even happier.

Lets see for Wayno to get the gas record another 65 MPH will do it. The gas record is currently 253.995. The fuel record is a little easier another 59 MPH would do it. The fuel record is 248.443. Pretty fast for a flathead.

I thinks that "cas3" was likely referencing the "Two" club. DD

To become a member of the Two club and get the RED hat its a bit more involved. You have to establish a record in the class. So a record above the speeds I posted would be required.

Ronnie, I'm running in XF/GL. The record is 196.557. I need 7 m/ph for the record. It looks like you're looking at the Streamliner record.

Looking further, the 248 record is for Blown Gas Streamliner. I need 11 miles for a hat (2 Club). I'm starting to think I have a shot. You've done a great job. Just trying to follow your example. Look forward to seeing you there again.

I am a proud member of the 20 MPH club...got to steer a car being towed back on the return road. Sadly, that's as close to a salt flats hero as I'm gonna get

I was there every year from early 80's to early 90's. One year while hanging out rite on the start line, like you could in those days, we were watching an old guy who was having some minor problem on the line, I forget what, but his only crew was his wife. She was panicked as to what to do, and the driver was on the line suited up & strapped in, Elmo(?) the starter, was just about to throw them out, and we jumped in and got the thing started, and off he went. Wife then says "jump in" and off we went down to get him at the end of the coarse. Thats when we met "Zeke" zacherson, famous hoarder of Wayne 12 port heads and GMC blocks. We hung around and helped a little bit throughout the rest of the meet. It was big fun, my best ever B'ville memories. Also, Zeke was no fool, he put me in the drivers seat so I could have salt hittin me in the face all the way to the pits. 29 ford open wheeled roadster

Yes Wayno your right I looked at the streamliner record well that explains why the speeds were so high! So that being the case your getting extremely close to that 200 run.
Your now qualified for the long coarse with the 5 mile distance to get the needed 11 MPH its doable for sure. I would add some more water for the added distance to keep the engine at 180. Were looking at going to mile 4 in August so adding more coolant capacity is one of the projects on our race car at the moment.

Ronnie, that 189 was through the 5. I have some motor work to do. That's happening right now. Coolant temp was 170 at the 3, 185 at the 4 and 197 at the 5.
