Question about pinion bearing
Good afternoon good folks,
My question is about the bearing that fits against the pinion inside the "pumpkin". If you refer to the attached picture, where I have marked the red arrow, how big should this gap be i.e. between the top of the bearing and the bottom of the pinion? Should there be a gap at all? Your expert advice is always greatly appreciated! Kind regards Mike Johannesburg, Sunny South Africa |

Re: Question about pinion bearing
Per the Tom Endy article and my experiences, the bearing race flange should contact the pinion gear shoulder. If all is correct, a bit of lubricant was applied to the surfaces, and no foreign matter is in the space, a small press should accomplish this without major difficulty.

Re: Question about pinion bearing
Thanks everyone, the Tom Endy article spells it out perfectly: the bearing must rest against the pinion.
Thanks once again for all the help. Kind regards Mike |
