model a throttle control lever issues
Thank you. Is the slider or tooth mechanism that holds the steering column throttle control lever in the set position, a repairable item? Or does the assembly require replacement?

Re: model a throttle control lever issues
Lay the part on a heavy backing plate and use a somewhat dull chisel to reform the grooves. Maybe have someone hold a heavy backing plate and use the chisel with the column still in place. The problem is the rods usually also need to be repaired or replaced.

Re: model a throttle control lever issues
If you have a 28-29 then that piece can be removed from the column after you have removed the rods themselves along with the steering wheel. Mine was broke off when I got my car and had to replace the quadrant. The 30-31 models have that built as part of the entire column.

Re: model a throttle control lever issues
Thanks. I've recently purchased a '31'. Someone had mentioned possibly filing the grooves, without removing the steering column. I just don't know the location of the grooves. Is it at the top by the lever, or at the bottom in the column?

Where is the part located and what does it look like? It's not in the column, is it? |

Re: model a throttle control lever issues
The notches are in the quadrants at the top of the column.
The rods are plain round where they contact the notches. |

Re: model a throttle control lever issues
On a couple columns I worked on recently, I used a triangle file to clean out the paint and crud in the quadrent grooves. Before doing that, the grooves looked like they were completely worn to almost nothing. They cleaned up quickly and nicely, and with rods installed again, you could feel each notch.

Re: model a throttle control lever issues
I have the same problem on my '30. Do you think you can effectively file them without taking the column out?

Re: model a throttle control lever issues
probably. Just move the lever to one side or the other and be careful not to scratch the lever with the tip of the file. ...but if you do, it will still be covered by the wheel and not likely ever visible to most.
