Tom your mentioning the AJS 500, I had many AJ's and Matchless back in the 60s. I still have a 600 single Matchless in a 350 trials frame. Very light weight for its day.

Those big wheels and tires were largely used by rural mail carriers. Roads, where there was any, were not much good in bad weather. Especially in winter. The jacked up river crossers were built by people with brain leaks.
