Re: 51 F2 226 Project
Tapping the sleve does nothing, i cut one off with a dremel and it was crimped at the bottom, i assume thats not normal. If neccessary i will do that to remove all of them.

Re: 51 F2 226 Project
No, it is not. I often just cut the valve and spring assemble to get them out. If you are not going to be reusing any of the parts (which I don't) there is not much reason to spend the effort to remove them the normal way.

Re: 51 F2 226 Project
Ok, yeah I'm going to have to do that for all the valves if they are all crimped like this.

Re: 51 F2 226 Project
I pulled the engine so that I could strip it better, how do you remove the fly wheel to put it on a stand?

Re: 51 F2 226 Project
Ok, I've got the engine out and disassembled less the valves, front axle removed and just got a sandblaster to clean the frame and prep for paint. Removing the rear axle is giving me a bit of trouble, but it shouldn't be too difficult to remove the pins. Would it possibly be easier to flip the frame to pound the front spring pins?

Re: 51 F2 226 Project
so I'm on summer break now and have spent the last couple days cleaning and painting the frame. Any tips for removing the rear spring mounting pins?

Re: 51 F2 226 Project
Do you have the bed off? On F-1's at least there is no access to the front pins on the rear springs from the inside of the frame, there is a brace right in front of them. So make a puller by re-threading a bolt to 1/8-NPT so it will screw into the hole for the zerk fittings. See below. Use sockets that will clear the pin as it is drawn out.
