Reproduction cloth heater hose?
Hello -- Does anyone reproduce the cloth heater hose used on the old style heat exchange systems (see pic below)? I know they don't make the asbestos hoses anymore, but wondering if there are substitutes available.

I saw a great installation on the V8 Club Concourse a few years ago! The owner proudly told me that his hose was manufactured specifically for service in small planes. It wasn't asbestos, of course, but sure looked good. Now you need a pilot to run down the info on where to get it.

Cecil, check with some of the LZ parts places, I have been looking for several parts to complete the hot air heater in our '39 LZ and I think someone in the south east is re-popping the "hose" out of fiberglass... Sorry I can't remember who it was, if it comes back to me, I'll let you know.

Is that the last piece you need for your system?

Re: Reproduction cloth heater hose?
Thanks for the ideas. Got my system working just fine, but the material I used to fabricate a hose has torn (too rigid) and I need to get something more suitable. PS -- system generates lots of heat; I suspect if it ever did develop a leak I'd smell it pretty quickly since these cars don't burn that cleanly.

Yes. I found high temperature material at McMaster-Carr. Part #8851k33. I used the fabric and it worked great. Had to find high temperature thread to sew together. Neighbor is a fire fighter and borrowed the thread from him.

Same idea used on millions of VWs and I don't remember people dropping dead from exhaust fumes then so it must not be to bad. I had one in a 71 bug and it worked great for the rear seat passengers.

Aero Duct can be purchased through Aircraft Spruce and Specialy Co. It comes in all sorts of fractional sizes and in two material types. The black color is a nitrile coated fabric and the red color is high temp silicon coated fabric. There are single wall wire reinforced type and double wall with the wire reinforcement between the two layers. Aircraft use the stuff for heater, defroster, and carburetor heat ducting plus air intake for cooling and engine air supply.
