Residual magnitism in T engines?

If cast iron does not retain magnetism (i suspect it may?) then i cannot use it as a source for this experiment. Which makes me wonder, if you have a jar of ferrofluid please place it on a model T transmission and turn the engine over (possibly while it is running?) and video the results if it looks interesting. Thankyou.
