Re: crank gear
After you have a fair amount of tension on it, smack the end of the puller screw with a hammer. If that doesnt work, warm the gear with a propane torch, and repeat. Good Luck.

Re: crank gear
I take meat off both sides with a torch, then split it with a chisel. (crank out of car)
I use heat on the new one. |

Re: crank gear
I have drilled several holes --careful of the angle so you don't drill the crankshaft, first outside hole follows the angle of the gear teeth, next ones can be straighter, usually ending up near the keyway so not as many holes needed --then wack the spot with a chisel

Re: crank gear
Are we talking original cast iron or steel crank gear ?
I put as much pressure, as you possibly can, then like Rex, take a couple pound hammer. I smack the end of puller, not real hard, but a LOT of blows. Try to add a little more pressure and repeat many medium blows. They pop for me doing this procedure. PIA, but I just hate to heat or pound gear while on crank, just me. |
