48 F1 newbie, suggestions wanted
Ok I am brand new here and open to any suggestions or advise you may have. I recently purchased a 48 F1, the body is mostly in great shape but the doors won't line up because someone altered the cab with a 51 rear window. I found a 50 cab that is in great shape for $200, and the doors line up perfect. There currently is no engine or transmission in it. My plan is to make it a driver with a 1969 Ford 302 (to be rebuilt), RnD Fabrication radiator and an AOD transmission, I have a Ford 8" rear end that will also be going into it. I want to keep the exterior look of the truck except I do want to lower it a bit. I have most of the componets from Fatman Fabrication for the front and and will be keeping the leaf spring and shock set up in the rear, but a newer design from who I do not know yet. So that is my plan and as we all know plans can change. I am open to suggestions or any helpful tips anyone may have to help me get started. Sorry if this was long winded.

Sounds like a good plan but, most of the advice you'll get here is for stock and/or modified stock ,that would mean running a Flathead I6 or V8 stock, mild or hot with a stock suspension, etc. I recommend that you post this over on the HAMB, you'll get much more info for what you want to do with the truck.

You probably won't get much love on the HAMB either, with the fatman front and all....
I suggest the 48-56 forum on FTE.... ford-trucks.com..... |

Yup you were right about the HAMB, I will try the other site as well. Just looking for a little help here and there. I know there are a lot of people that have gone down this road before me and would like to hear the pros and cons, and try not to make the same mistakes. Thanks for the heads up.

Their catalogue has many options for lowering the rear end, springs, hangers etc. Very helpful! |
