Default Gas tank removal on 31 Coupe

I'm very possibly picking up something new and fun in the near future, a 31 Coupe.

I'm being told that the gas tank has trouble holding more than a quarter tank without leaking. I can certainly drive it around the block or section line with a quarter tank, but whats the fun in that?!

What goes into pulling the gas tank and looking for the leak, and fixing it?

Thanks!

There's a metal strip under the windshield that's on top of the gas tank. That comes off along with your dash rail. There's some screws also along the firewall. Those come out to. Disconnect the fuel lines and it should be ready to come out.

As far as repairing it make sure you drain it, flush it and let it dry out. Then stick a hose in the top of it that's connected to an exhaust pipe of a running motor so that you can weld on it. If you've never done it have somebody who has do the repair or else you will have a nice big explosion.

Where is it leaking from?? It's possible the gaskets on the gas gauge have dried up and leak, therefore no more than 1/4 tank. Before you start to pull the tank, ck the gauge out.
If replacing the gaskets use the CORK ones.
